We had to have our cat "Lunchbox" put to sleep yesterday. It about killed me as life slipped from his body as I held him in my arms.

We've had "The Box" 14 years, and not having him here this morning leaves a huge hole in my heart.

I've buried a lot of pets in my lifetime, but l think losing Box is the most painful. I''m a little lost not having him here this morning ...

Those of you who have, or who have ever had, a pet know what I mean and how I feel. All they do is love us. I miss you Box!

I have lots several cats. The I had to put to sleep for health reasons. The last had lived 21 years. Some died from illness. two from being run over by cars going way too fast on my street. The first one eaten by a coyote. I miss them all.

I've lost many throughout my lifetime too. I can see each and every one of them in my mind.

I remember seeing a plaque at a thrift store that said "Heaven is where all the cats you've ever owned are waiting for you." I hope that's true.

I understand and commiserate with you. I had a very similar experience with my cat Tommie a couple of years ago and still I feel it!

Yes, this is going to hurt for a long time. Box was very special.

I am so, so sorry. I put one of my babies down last month and it's heartbreaking. Just think about all the wonderful memories that will bring a smile to your face and remember the love given/received. -hugs-

Thank you.

There will be lots of looking back with fond memories of Box. Right now it's killing me.

I have held 2 cats in my arms that were put to sleep... It hurts beyond belief Plz!!

While it might seem to soon.. A new cat to honor your cat really helps... I do it as soon as I can.. Sorry for your lose...

Thank you pac.

I always get a new pet immediately too to honor the one that just passed. I went to the human society this morning and there is a kitten that looks exactly like Box. I am planning on getting her and another kitten too, so they'll each have a buddy to play with.

I remember the feeling, the last time was 15 yrs ago when I lost my lucky black cat, midnight.

The choice to even put them to sleep makes for a tough day. My poor pal of 12 years caught some disease and the vet convinced me to do the procedure. He said the disease had progressed so quickly beyond any cure with the end imminent.
He was really suffering, constantly shaking and in obvious pain.

The vet told me to come back the next day and after the first shot that calms them down and spend what time I needed. After that shot all the bad symptoms were gone, he was drugged but very calm and responsive.
You know how they tell you not to feed a cat a lot of store-bought tuna fish but how much they love it? Well, that last day he enjoyed some fresh tuna I brought with me as I said my goodbyes.
I was sure he was calm and happy before that second shot.

It's not easy, I'm so sorry.

Thank you.

You're right, the decision in and of itself is gut wrenching. You know how much longer you're going to have your pet with you before they're gone. The final goodbye at the vet was hard, but Lunchbox gave me a look telling me it was OK ... He was ready to be out of his pain.

Oh, I know the feelings you're going through. It's definitely not an easy task. So sorry, Plz

Box was a real character. He had the sweetest most innocent face you could imagine, but he was as mischievous as they came. Thanks for your thoughts.

Oh, i can inmaging, how you must feel!

It are rough days, the days after my last cat died
It took me days, weeks, a month to got over it.
Every day, i missed him.
he was a stray, who decided he wanted to live with me.
He was smart and funny too...
I adored him!
Take your time, and just be aware of also all the good times, you had, with each other.
And maybe, when the time is right, again, for you, you find your other cat...?

After Meastro died, i cant seem to find an other cat...
I feed an other stray cat, instead.....

Plzrmeister replies on 10/7/2021 12:02 pm:
Thank you for your thoughts.

That's how Box was too ... Smart and funny. He had an abundance of personality and I will never forget him. He has a special burial spot here at my home. As you'll note in one of my responses above, I plan to adopt two new kittens in Box's honor. They need a home and I need them too.

Yes, it's certainly a shock to one's system and will take a long time to slowly wear off. The house seems so empty right now.

Sorry for your loss. So often our four legged friends become family. And with covid I think that has increased.

Plzrmeister replies on 10/8/2021 5:00 am:
Thank you.

Box was certainly family. I'll miss all the daily routines we had together.
